Aruna Sairam (also spelled Sayeeram) is a well-known Carnatic singer and Indian classical vocalist. She served on the chairman's board of the "Indian Premier National Institution of Music and Dance." She is also the Vice-Chairman of the "Sangeet Natak Academy." Aruna was born on October 30, , in Bombay, Maharashtra, India, and was the first Carnatic performer to stage at the "BBC proms" in London and the "Oud Festival" in Israel (Jerusalem). She received music lessons from her mother, Rajalakshmi Sethuraman, a student of the Alathur Brothers, and Thanjavoor Sankara Iyer. Shri Sethuraman, her father, was a music lover who entertained musicians and dancers at his home. At one of these meetings, Aruna met Sangita Kalanidhi Smt T Brinda, who taught her the" Veena Dhanammal" style.
